Saturday is expected to be breezy, with more extensive cloud cover over the District. Rain could begin in parts of the area Saturday morning, with additional rain possible late Saturday night into Sunday. The weekend will stay cool before warmer, mostly dry weather returns next week.
A strong coastal storm east of the Delmarva Peninsula is driving the unsettled pattern, according to the National Weather Service. Saturday's high should reach about 68 degrees, with northerly winds and gusts of 20 to 35 mph, making it feel noticeably colder near open areas and the waterfront.
Rain Arrives Before Saturday Afternoon
Rain becomes more probable Saturday and Sunday, though coverage and amounts remain uncertain.
Sunday will be even cooler, with a high near 64 degrees, cloudy skies and another round of likely rain. Northwest winds should be similar to or slightly lower than Saturday's, making outdoor plans feel more like late October than late September.
Warmer Weather Builds Next Week
The pattern improves Monday, when mostly cloudy but mainly dry conditions are expected with a high near 71 degrees. Highs are forecast to be in the 70s for most of next week, with temperatures possibly reaching the low 80s in the middle to late week, and sunnier conditions Wednesday and Thursday with little chance of rain through most of that stretch.
A better chance of rain arrives at the end of next week, but the bigger story is the quick rebound after a cold, windy weekend. For Saturday and Sunday, an umbrella and an extra layer should be more useful than sunglasses.
