Authorities have confirmed that a body was found near Nelson and Henderson avenues in the Town of Beloit last Thursday. The Rock County Sheriff's Office says the investigation remains open and active, but few other details have been made public.
According to the Beloit Daily News, the Town of Beloit Police Department contacted the Rock County Sheriff's Office around 7 p.m. that Thursday to investigate the body. The sheriff's office is now handling the case, per the same report.
Few Details Confirmed So Far
Matt Jacobson, speaking on behalf of the investigation, said he could not verify the body's possible age, sex or manner of death. The Beloit Daily News reported that he was authorized to say only that the investigation was open and active.
The Beloit Daily News reported that it contacted the Rock County Sheriff's Office and the Dane County Medical Examiner's Office to seek information about the body's identity. The same account reports that Sheriff Curt Fell commented on the investigation and identification, but provides no further identifying details. The Dane County Medical Examiner's Office oversees the Rock County Medical Examiner's Office, according to the outlet.
Recent Missing-Person Post Taken Down
Separately, the Town of Beloit Police Department had recently reported a missing 16-year-old on Facebook, according to the Beloit Daily News. Public reporting has not established any connection between that post and the body found near Nelson and Henderson avenues, and no such link should be assumed.

The Rock County Medical Examiner's Office says a pending death certificate may be issued depending on autopsy results, according to its general guidance. That guidance does not establish that an autopsy or pending certificate has occurred in this case, and it does not describe steps used by Wisconsin's unidentified-persons resources. In a separate Rock County case, WMTV reported on Oct. 16, 2024, that a hunter found what appeared to be skeletal human remains on public hunting grounds in the 8000 block of N.
