A man is dead after the box truck he was driving struck a traffic pole at the intersection of Foothills Parkway and Baseline Road in Boulder early Saturday morning. Boulder Police said the crash occurred around 1:45 a.m. and that no other vehicles were involved.
According to Yellow Scene, the man was driving northbound on Foothills Parkway when his truck struck the pole at the southeast corner of the intersection. He died at the scene, the outlet reported. The Denver Gazette similarly reported that Boulder Police said a man died after his truck hit the traffic pole, and that as of Saturday afternoon police were still investigating the cause and circumstances of the crash.
No Other Vehicles Involved, Police Say
Investigators confirmed that this was a single-vehicle collision, with no other cars, trucks or motorcycles involved in the wreck. The intersection sits along a busy arterial corridor on Boulder's east side, where Foothills Parkway crosses Baseline Road.
Police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash, or who has information about the events leading up to it, to contact Traffic Officer Dave Kaufman. Investigators have not released additional details about what led up to the crash.
Arterial Streets and Boulder's Safety Push
The crash comes as Boulder officials have been examining safety issues on the city's arterial roads. A city project page tied to the Baseline Road Transportation Safety Project has cited findings that a majority of traffic crashes resulting in serious injury or fatality happen on arterial streets, part of the rationale behind a City Council review of safety measures along Baseline Road. It is not yet known whether that broader safety initiative has any direct bearing on Saturday's crash.
For now, the investigation into the fatal wreck at Foothills Parkway and Baseline Road remains open, with police continuing to seek anyone who may have seen what happened before the truck struck the pole.
