Bradley Whitford stood on Hollywood Boulevard Wednesday morning as the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce dedicated the 2,858th star on the Walk of Fame in his name, honoring a television career that stretches from The West Wing's White House corridors to Netflix's diplomatic thrillers. The ceremony began at 11:30 a.m. Pacific Time at 6104 Hollywood Boulevard, near Gower Street, where fans lined up on the north side of the block to watch.
According to a Hollywood Chamber of Commerce press release, Whitford's star recognizes his television acting career, and the event was streamed live exclusively at walkoffame.com. Martin Sheen and Dulé Hill, his former West Wing co-stars, were scheduled to speak at the ceremony, the release states. Per MyNewsLA, fellow West Wing alumni Josh Malina, Mary McCormack, Ron Ostrow and Richard Schiff were also expected to attend.
From the West Wing to a Diplomatic Marriage
Whitford is best known for playing White House Deputy Chief of Staff Josh Lyman on NBC's The West Wing, which ran from 1999 to 2006 and earned him his first Primetime Emmy Award, the Chamber's release notes. He was cast alongside Allison Janney throughout the show's run, per MyNewsLA's account of the honor.
More recently, Whitford joined Netflix's The Diplomat as Todd Penn, husband to President Grace Penn, a role that brought him an Emmy nomination, according to the same Chamber release. Janney portrays President Grace Hagen Penn on that series, MyNewsLA reports, and Whitford is set to return as a series regular for the show's fourth season in October, per the Chamber's announcement.
A Return to the Play That Started It All
Just over a week after his star ceremony, Whitford is set to return to the stage in a new production of A Few Good Men at Lincoln Center Theater, this time as Lt. Col. Nathan Jessep. The Lincoln Center Theater listing states that performances of the limited engagement begin October 8, 2026, for 13 weeks, though MyNewsLA's seed reporting on the ceremony cited an October 29 opening — a discrepancy between the two accounts that remains unresolved. The production is directed by six-time Tony Award winner Michael Arden, according to the Lincoln Center Theater page.
The role carries personal history for Whitford. He made his Broadway debut in 1990 in the original production of A Few Good Men, written by Aaron Sorkin, according to MyNewsLA. As Broadway.com notes, Whitford played prosecutor Jack Ross in that original cast and understudied the role of Daniel Kaffee before eventually taking it over. That 1989 production also marked the start of Sorkin's creative partnership with Whitford, one that would later extend to The West Wing, Broadway.com reports.
A Career Built on Range
Whitford's Emmy history extends well beyond The West Wing. He earned a second nomination in 2016 for Transparent, a third in 2019 for The Handmaid's Tale, and most recently an Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series nomination in July 2026, according to MyNewsLA's reporting, around the same time he was promoted to a full cast member of The Diplomat. His film credits include a major role in the 2011 horror comedy Cabin in the Woods, following a television debut in 1985 on The Equalizer and a film debut that same year in the thriller Doorman, per the same account.
Born October 10, 1959, in Madison, Wisconsin, Whitford lived in Wayne, Pennsylvania, from ages 3 to 14 in a Quaker household before graduating from Madison East High School in 1977, MyNewsLA reports. He went on to earn a bachelor's degree in English and theater from Wesleyan University and a graduate diploma from the Juilliard School, according to the outlet.
Joining an Iconic Hollywood Landmark
Whitford's star joins a Walk of Fame that was completed in 1961 with an initial 1,558 stars, according to MyNewsLA's account of the tradition. Walk of Fame ceremonies are streamed live on walkoffame.com and can later be viewed on the Chamber's YouTube channel, the outlet notes, giving fans outside Los Angeles a way to watch Whitford's moment on the boulevard where his name now sits in bronze and pink terrazzo.
