A 68-year-old woman was punched repeatedly in the head and face with closed fists aboard an MTA bus near East 170th Street and Grand Concourse in the Bronx, and the attacker ran off. The woman was taken to a hospital for treatment of bruises to her face and neck, according to police.
The NYPD is now searching for the suspect, who fled the scene immediately after the attack, according to News 12 New York. No arrests have been announced, and police have asked anyone with information about the incident to come forward. The attack took place near the Grand Concourse subway station.

Potential Felony Exposure Under State Law
If the suspect is identified and is more than 10 years younger than the victim, the case could be prosecuted as a Class D violent felony under New York Penal Law § 120.05(12), which elevates an intentional assault causing physical injury to a victim 65 or older to Assault in the Second Degree, punishable by up to seven years in prison, according to Lebedin Kofman LLP. Separately, a bill introduced in the New York State Assembly last year, A4109, would go further by explicitly classifying assaults against seniors while using or accessing public transportation as second-degree felonies, according to the New York State Senate. That legislation reflects lawmakers' ongoing effort to tighten protections for older transit riders amid a string of violent incidents on city buses and trains.
Whether footage from this particular bus or nearby station cameras will help detectives track down a suspect remains to be seen.
Part of a Wider Pattern on Bronx Bus Lines
This is not the first violent episode along this stretch of Grand Concourse this year. In June, a 23-year-old passenger was slashed in the face during an evening commute aboard a Bx2 bus near the same corridor, Hoodline previously reported on a Bx22 attack that also referenced the earlier slashing. Just weeks ago, on the Bx22, a different rider was slashed in the head before the attacker fled toward Castle Hill.
Hoodline reported a 1.3% decline in the broader category of major transit felonies across the MTA transit system.
Attacks on older New Yorkers in public settings have drawn renewed attention elsewhere in the city too. Earlier this month, NYPD Crime Stoppers launched a public appeal after a 68-year-old victim was struck with a metal container in Harlem by an attacker who fled the scene. NYPD Crime Stoppers offers rewards of up to $3,500 for anonymous tips that lead to an arrest and indictment, through its 1-800-577-TIPS hotline, according to the New York City Police Foundation.
