Brookfield police are asking the public to help identify suspects in two thefts involving more than $2,300 worth of merchandise from the Alo Yoga store on Market Street. The first theft happened on May 2, when a female suspect allegedly concealed multiple items valued at $1,230. The second came on September 18, when a female suspect took $1,072 in additional merchandise; another woman was present.
The Alo Yoga location targeted in both incidents is the athleisure brand's first Wisconsin store, having opened in August 2025 inside a 4,020-square-foot space at The Corners of Brookfield. As reported by FOX6 News Milwaukee, the September 18 suspect arrived in a black Buick Envision Avenir bearing a temporary tag that investigators could not read, complicating efforts to trace the vehicle.
That suspect was described by police as approximately 25 years old, standing about 5 feet 6 inches tall, with mid-back-length black hair. She wore a black quarter-zip sweatshirt, black leggings and black sneakers, and carried a black Lululemon tote bag, according to the same outlet's report. The woman accompanying her on September 18 was also described as roughly 25 years old, about 5 feet 4 inches tall, with her black hair styled in a bun. She wore a purple unzipped sweater, a purple sports bra, purple sweatpants and white sneakers, and carried a matching black Lululemon tote.
A Growing Pattern of High-Value Retail Theft in Brookfield
The Alo Yoga case adds to a string of retail theft incidents that have put Brookfield police on alert throughout 2026. In April, officers requested public help after a theft at a local Pick 'n Save store involved $2,600 in stolen merchandise, according to Hoodline. Just this month, police issued a separate appeal for a female suspect accused of taking more than $500 in goods from a local Kohl's before fleeing in a white vehicle missing its front bumper.
Some of these cases have turned dangerous. Back in August, a shoplifting report involving $478 in merchandise at a Brookfield Kohl's triggered an 80 mph police pursuit, during which a suspect allegedly rammed two squad cars before being forced into a ditch. The pursuit continued onto Interstate 94.
New State Law Raises the Stakes for Repeat Offenders
The scale of the mall where Alo Yoga sits may help explain why it remains a target. The Corners of Brookfield spans 750,000 square feet of mixed-use development, including 400,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space, 244 luxury apartments and parking for more than 1,700 vehicles, according to the shopping center's own account.
Wisconsin law sets $500 as the threshold for felony retail theft, with higher values subject to higher felony classifications. Newly enacted 2025 Wisconsin Act 106, which took effect in March 2026, gives prosecutors the ability to aggregate stolen merchandise values across multiple retail thefts into a single elevated charge and adds penalty enhancers for repeat offenders, according to Chirafisi Anderson, S.C. Under the law, aggregation depends on whether the same person committed the acts in the same prosecutorial unit during a course of conduct.
Wisconsin courts have also given prosecutors room to treat repeated theft at the same store as a single continuous offense. A 2019 State Supreme Court ruling in State v. Lopez affirmed that prosecutors have statutory authority to charge multiple separate acts of retail theft that way, according to the Wisconsin State Law Library.
