Brookfield police are asking for the public's help identifying a driver who bolted from a traffic stop on North 124th Street two weeks ago and led officers on a pursuit that ended in a Wauwatosa shopping plaza. The vehicle, a black Chrysler Sebring with no registration, has not been recovered, and investigators say they still don't know who was behind the wheel.
According to WTMJ, Brookfield officers attempted to stop the Sebring near 124th Street around 7:45 p.m. on Aug. 23 after noticing the car had no registration. Instead of pulling over, the driver took off south on 124th Street and into the Collections Shopping Center, which sits just across the county line in Wauwatosa. Police terminated the pursuit once the car entered the retail area, citing safety concerns, the station reported.
That stretch of North 124th Street isn't just another suburban road — it's the literal border separating Brookfield in Waukesha County from Wauwatosa in Milwaukee County, according to the City of Brookfield. The corridor links the two jurisdictions, and the city emphasizes intergovernmental coordination in the area.
Who Police Are Looking For
Per the same WTMJ report, the driver is described as a Black man believed to be in his late 20s. A passenger in the car — a Black man in his 50s wearing a Milwaukee Bucks flat-brim hat — was also in the vehicle at the time of the stop. Investigators say the Sebring has recently been known to frequent Milwaukee's northeast side.
The car reportedly had a Car Castle dealer placard displayed on its rear bumper. That placard is tied to a used car dealership operating in Zion, Illinois, according to Cars.com.
Regional Alert Network Activated
Brookfield police pushed details of the pursuit and descriptions of both the driver and passenger across the region through an email bulletin sent via the Wisconsin Crime Alert Network, as reported by FOX6 Milwaukee. The network was used to transmit the bulletin.
Anyone with information can contact the Brookfield Police Department directly, or submit an anonymous tip through Waukesha County Crime Stoppers.
A Pattern Of Pursuits Across The Metro
The report does not discuss what legal process would follow if the driver were identified and charged.
This isn't the first time a Brookfield pursuit has spilled into a shopping district or across county lines this year. Just weeks earlier, a Milwaukee woman was charged after allegedly ramming two Brookfield squad cars during an 80 mph chase that began with a shoplifting report at a Brookfield Kohl's, as Hoodline reported. In February, a Brookfield pursuit of a retail-theft suspect ended on Interstate 94 in West Allis after multiple vehicle impacts.
In April, a separate multi-jurisdictional chase that began in Milwaukee ended in Brookfield. And in January, a separate Wauwatosa police pursuit was also reported.
