A single mother and her children were asleep inside their North Braddock home early Thursday when bullets tore through the walls around them. No one was hurt, but the gunfire left holes in the house and shattered whatever sense of safety the family had just started to rebuild.
According to WPXI, the mother told police the shots came from a black SUV at around 4:30 Thursday morning. She and her children were inside the home sleeping when the gunfire started, and Allegheny County Police are now trying to track down whoever fired into the house in the middle of the night.
The bullet holes now marking her walls are more than property damage — they are a fresh reminder of violence for a woman who was already trying to escape it. The mother had moved to North Braddock only about a month earlier after fleeing another state with her children because of domestic violence, the station's report notes.
Detectives Take Over the Investigation
Allegheny County detectives have taken the lead on the investigation. As of the latest reporting, no suspect, motive, or vehicle description beyond the black SUV has been released.
