Cambridge police are investigating a September 13 shooting on the 400 block of Skinners Court that left a 28-year-old man with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the leg. Eastern Shore Undercover first reported that officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert, found the victim and arranged transport by Dorchester County EMS to TidalHealth Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.
Investigators believe the shooting was targeted, but police have not announced a suspect, motive or arrest. The Cambridge Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division is handling the case, and anyone with information is asked to call 410-228-3333.
A separate August shooting on the same block
The closest documented comparison is a separate August 18 shooting on Skinners Court. According to WBOC, police received a ShotSpotter alert indicating multiple rounds of gunfire and found a 19-year-old man with gunshot wounds to the neck, torso and arm. He was flown to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma.
The two cases share a location and involved gunshot victims, but the available reporting does not establish a common suspect, motive or other connection. The August victim's injuries and air transport also differed from the September 13 victim's reported leg wound and ground transport.
The incidents do not establish a citywide trend
The two recent Skinners Court shootings are limited examples and do not, by themselves, show that violence is increasing across Cambridge. In fact, Cambridge recorded 30 aggravated assaults in 2024, a 53% decrease from 2023, according to The Star Democrat, which described figures presented by Police Chief Justin Todd.
The same report said Cambridge police map crimes by location and time to help determine where officers patrol. That is a citywide policing practice; the available evidence does not say whether it has produced a specific response at Skinners Court or whether the September shooting is related to the August case.
For now, the September 13 investigation remains open, with key details—including who fired the weapon and why—undisclosed.
