A car slammed into a building at 88 Orange Avenue in Suffern on Tuesday afternoon, right next to Tequila Sal y Limon Mexican Restaurant, and police arrested the driver on suspicion of driving under the influence. The crash happened at 5:10 p.m., and while the building suffered damage, no residents were hurt, according to the mayor.
Police and Firefighters Rushed to the Scene
Suffern police and firefighters responded to the crash scene along Orange Avenue and worked to secure the area, according to Daily Voice. The driver was arrested on suspicion of DWI, per the mayor, though the driver's name has not been released. The mayor also said the building sustained only minor damage and that no residents were injured in the crash.
Beyond those details, more specifics about what led to the crash were not available at the time of the report, the outlet noted. It remains unclear what precisely caused the vehicle to strike the building, and no further information on the driver's condition has surfaced.
Echoes of Last Year's Curley's Corner Crash
Tuesday's wreck lands just a few doors down from where a much more destructive crash unfolded roughly one year earlier. On Aug. 26, 2025, a driver crashed through the front of Curley's Corner restaurant at 84 Orange Avenue, according to lohud.com. That crash caused hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage to the building and restaurant, Mayor Michael Curley said at the time.
The driver in that earlier incident was identified as 56-year-old Michael Waldman of Suffern, who suffered serious injuries and remained hospitalized at Good Samaritan Hospital, the report states. Initial reports suggested Waldman may have experienced a medical emergency behind the wheel, though that possibility was unconfirmed. His SUV reportedly clipped another vehicle turning from Route 202 onto Orange Avenue before jumping the curb and striking the restaurant.
No customers were inside Curley's Corner during that 2025 crash, and none of the upstairs tenants were hurt, though they were evacuated for several hours as crews assessed the damage. A separate account from Rockland Daily similarly described a driver accidentally crashing into the building at 84 Orange Avenue, with initial reports suggesting a medical episode caused the vehicle to veer off course.
Whether Tuesday's crash near Tequila Sal y Limon shares any connection to conditions along that stretch of Orange Avenue is unclear, and the two incidents involved different addresses and different circumstances. For now, Suffern officials have confirmed only that this latest crash left minor damage and no injured residents, with the driver arrested on suspicion of DWI.
