Milwaukee is waking up to cloudy skies, chilly temperatures and a stiff breeze Tuesday, with scattered showers possible early before the clouds begin to break. The high should reach the 60s, making this feel more like a brisk October morning than a late-September day. Along the lakefront, dangerous waves and currents remain the bigger concern.
Showers Fade As Northeast Winds Continue
Scattered rain showers are expected mainly before 9 a.m., with a chance of a few lingering sprinkles during the morning. The National Weather Service Milwaukee/Sullivan office says northeast winds of 10 to 15 mph will keep conditions cool, while gusts may make the lakefront feel even more raw.
Tuesday night should be partly cloudy with lows in the mid-40s to lower 50s. Wednesday will stay cool and breezy, with temperatures in the 60s and continuing onshore flow, before lighter winds arrive later in the week, according to the National Weather Service.
Beach Hazards Continue Through Wednesday Evening
A Beach Hazards Statement remains in effect for Milwaukee County and other southern Wisconsin beaches through 7 p.m. Wednesday. Waves of 4 to 7 feet and dangerous currents are expected, creating life-threatening swimming conditions along Lake Michigan.
People should stay out of the water and away from piers, breakwalls and other exposed shoreline areas. The onshore wind can make conditions especially dangerous even when the beach itself looks relatively calm.
Forecast Gradually Warms Into The Weekend
Thursday and Friday should remain mostly dry, with temperatures gradually warming and lighter winds. Temperatures should continue to warm, with highs potentially reaching the 70s toward the end of the weekend or start of next week, as a drier pattern persists.
