A 38-year-old Coal Township man will spend years behind bars after admitting he sexually abused a teenage girl inside her own Lancaster Township home over a two-year span, threatening to kill her family if she ever told anyone. Brett Michael Bair pleaded guilty to seven charges tied to the abuse, which occurred between September 2021 and September 2023 when the girl was between 13 and 15 years old.
Judge Thomas Sponaugle sentenced Bair to four to 13 years in state prison, according to Daily Voice, though LancasterOnline reported the sentence as four to 12 years. Bair was living in the victim's Lancaster Township home during the abuse, and he must register as a sex offender for life and is barred from contacting the victim or her family, per the Daily Voice report. A Pattern of Abuse That Went Unnoticed for Years
The victim, now 16, did not come forward until 2025, when she spoke with police and the Lancaster County Children's Alliance, prompting investigators to open a case that August. She told them the abuse happened too many times to count, estimating it occurred at least once a week whenever no one else was home, the same outlet reported.
Two eyewitnesses separately told police they had found Bair in the girl's bed on different occasions, according to the Lancaster County District Attorney's Office, cited via Crimewatch. The same account describes an incident in which Bair grabbed the victim by both shoulders and threw her down onto a couch while at least one other person witnessed the assault.
Guilty Plea Covered Seven Separate Charges
Bair pleaded guilty on September 8 to one count each of aggravated indecent assault, unlawful contact with a minor, endangering the welfare of children, corruption of minors, terroristic threats, simple assault and indecent assault, per the district attorney's office.
Bair also threatened to kill the girl's family if she ever disclosed the sexual abuse, the district attorney's office said. An arrest warrant was issued for him on March 31, 2026, and he was taken into custody the next day at the Lancaster County Courthouse, where he had appeared for an unrelated civil hearing, according to WGAL.
Defendant's Record Includes Past Convictions
Bair has previous convictions connected to robbery, assault and burglary cases dating back to 2007, 2008 and 2012, LancasterOnline reported in its earlier coverage of the charges filed against him. Investigators say the abuse spanned the two years the girl was between 13 and 15 years old, unfolding inside the same Lancaster Township residence where she lived.
With sentencing now complete, Bair faces a minimum of four years in state prison before he becomes eligible for parole, with lifetime sex-offender registration and a no-contact order standing as permanent conditions of his case.
