A new bistro blending old-world European bones with Latin American sazón is preparing to open its doors in Navy Yard this October, bringing a new dining concept to one of Washington, D.C.'s fastest-growing neighborhoods. Bar Nuestro, listed in available reports at either 1345 Yard Place SE or 1331 Yards Place SE, is the latest venture from Colada Shop founder Daniella Senior, who is currently staffing up the restaurant ahead of its debut.
Bar Nuestro is preparing to open in Navy Yard, according to WhatNow, with the restaurant aiming to begin greeting guests in late October. The bistro is operated by Senior, who founded Colada Shop. Bar Nuestro and Colada Shop are both connected to Senior.
The restaurant describes its own concept as “old world bones, sazón at heart,” and per the same account, Bar Nuestro will feature a nostalgic European-tinged atmosphere layered with Latin charm. The interior is expected to blend that retro European sensibility with Latin American textiles and vintage posters.
A Kitchen Led by a José Andrés Group Veteran
Culinary direction falls to Claudio Foschi, who has worked with José Andrés for 10 years, according to El País. Foschi, a Colombian-born chef, studied at a culinary school in Maryland.
Bar Nuestro's approach reflects its European and Latin thematic positioning, aligning with the restaurant's stated blend of old-world structure and Latin flavor.
Seating for 138, Including a Koi Pond Patio
Public filings submitted for the restaurant's liquor license at the Yards Place address specify a total capacity of roughly 138 patrons, split between an 80-seat main dining room, an 8-seat sidewalk café, and a 58-seat summer garden, according to PoPville. The venue is in the Navy Yard area, where a new Urby building offers studio to three-bedroom rentals in the Capitol Riverfront neighborhood, per Apartments.com.
No Reservations, By Design
Bar Nuestro is still preparing for its debut, with details of its operating model not included in the available report.
Senior's path to Navy Yard runs through her founding of Colada Shop. She is now preparing Bar Nuestro.
Bar Nuestro has been teasing its progress on Instagram, posting that “the details are starting to tell the story! The space, the details, the team, every step is bringing Bar Nuestro closer to what we've been building toward. Still in progress. Still taking shape. But getting closer every day.” Readers can follow the restaurant on Instagram for updates and sneak peeks as the October opening approaches.
Part of a Broader Navy Yard Dining Wave
Bar Nuestro's arrival will add another dining option to Navy Yard. The opening will expand the neighborhood's restaurant lineup.
Bar Nuestro is Senior's latest Latin-focused concept. With the restaurant, Senior is developing a sit-down bistro in a neighborhood still figuring out what comes after the last out.
