Showers are expected through Tuesday evening, with widespread rain and reduced visibility possible. Gusty northeasterly winds of about 15 to 30 mph could make the cool air feel even sharper along exposed streets and waterfront areas.
Rainfall totals could reach between a half-inch and three-quarters of an inch during the day, followed by another quarter- to half-inch Tuesday night. The National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington said the broader area could see roughly 1 to 2 inches through Wednesday, with occasional heavier downpours possible.
Wednesday Stays Cool Before Drying Out
Showers will continue through Wednesday, with rain ending from northeast to southwest Wednesday afternoon. Skies will remain cloudy, with temperatures in the upper 50s to mid-60s. Northeast winds will remain brisk, with gusts up to 25 mph, but drier air should gradually move in by Wednesday night.
Thursday looks like the first real break, with drier weather beneath mostly cloudy skies and highs in the 60s. The improvement will be welcome after two days of gray skies, wet pavement and weather that feels more like November than late September.
Warmer, Drier Weather Builds Into The Weekend
Cloud cover should decrease Friday, followed by gradual warming through the weekend. Saturday could bring a slight chance of a shower, while conditions generally turn drier and warmer through the weekend and temperatures move closer to normal by Monday.
For Tuesday plans, drivers should allow extra time for wet roads, reduced visibility in fog and gusty crosswinds. Outdoor events will face a persistent rain threat through Wednesday, but the forecast becomes much friendlier for the second half of the week.
