A commercial vehicle operator died Thursday after a single-vehicle rollover crash on County Route 7B in the Town of Rushford, a rural community in northwestern Allegany County. State troopers responded to the scene at approximately 12:30 p.m., and the operator was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to Newport Dispatch, troopers from SP Amity responded to the crash and a preliminary investigation revealed a single commercial vehicle had rolled over on the roadway. The outlet reports the operator was pronounced dead at the scene, and that the investigation remains ongoing.
New York State Police Troop A is headquartered at 4525 West Saile Drive in Batavia, according to New York State Police.
A Remote Stretch of Road Near Swift Hill State Forest
County Route 7B runs through rural terrain close to Hardys Corners and Mt. Monroe, per the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. The route runs near Swift Hill State Forest, in a stretch of Allegany County defined by its low population and winding backroads. The Town of Rushford itself has just 1,085 residents spread across 36 square miles, according to the U.S. Census Bureau figures cited on Wikipedia, encompassing Rushford Lake and several small rural hamlets.
Motorists were advised to expect delays between Mt. Monroe and Hardys Corners while crews worked the scene, the same Newport Dispatch report notes. State troopers responded to the crash in Rushford.
