Details on the person shot on Cordelia Avenue, including their condition, were not immediately available, and WBFF has not said whether the case is connected to earlier gunfire on the same street. That uncertainty matters in this stretch of Northwest Baltimore, where Cordelia Avenue has been the site of gun violence before. In a report published May 31, 2024, WMAR reported that Baltimore City Police investigated a triple shooting in which investigators said the gunfire initially occurred in the 5300 block of Cordelia Avenue, leaving three people with gunshot wounds.
A String of Victims, and Conflicting Details
The WMAR report identified two of the three victims as a 25-year-old woman and a 28-year-old man, noting that the man later died from his injuries on July 2, prompting authorities to upgrade the case to a homicide. A separate account from WBAL described a fatal shooting at the intersection of Reisterstown Road and Cordelia Avenue in which a 29-year-old man was shot in the upper body around 5:15 p.m. and died at a hospital — a discrepancy in the victim's age between the two reports that has not been resolved.
WBAL's account placed that shooting within a rapid sequence of gunfire across the city. About 15 minutes after the Cordelia Avenue shooting, the outlet reported, a 33-year-old man was shot on the 500 block of Dolphin Street and taken to a hospital. Then at 6:15 p.m., a 13-year-old boy was shot in the hand on the 400 block of Yale Avenue — one person killed and two others, including a child, shot within an hour of each other that Monday, per the outlet's report. Detectives said they were looking for a dark-colored sedan that had been in the area at the time of the shooting.
Northwest District's Recent Run of Gunfire
The Northwest District has logged other shootings in recent weeks. On August 25, patrol officers responded to an area hospital for a report of a walk-in shooting victim and found a 19-year-old male suffering from a graze wound to the leg, according to Baltimore Witness. Officers were told that shooting had actually happened five days earlier, on August 20 at approximately 9 p.m., in the 2900 block of Garrison Boulevard. Cordelia Avenue's history with gun violence stretches back further still. In January 2021, a Northwest District patrol officer came upon an unresponsive man lying on the ground in the 5300 block of Cordelia Avenue near Hayward Avenue around 1:15 a.m.; police later found a second unresponsive man nearby, and both were pronounced dead from gunshot wounds, according to a report at the time. That deadly double shooting happened on Cordelia Avenue.
No arrests or suspect information have been reported in connection with the Cordelia Avenue investigation. Police have not said whether the case is linked to any of the earlier shootings in the area, and the exact circumstances of the gunfire remain under investigation.
