A 72-year-old Croydon man with a decades-long history of sexual offenses against children was sentenced to 10 to 20 years in state prison after federal and county investigators say they found hundreds of images of prepubescent boys stored on a digital drive inside his home. Gary Durfee pleaded guilty in May to three felony counts of possessing child sexual abuse material, and a Bucks County judge handed down the sentence this week.
Bucks County Common Pleas Court Judge Stephen A. Corr sentenced Durfee, according to the Bucks County District Attorney's Office. As reported by Levittown Now, Durfee will also be subject to lifetime sex-offender registration as a classified Tier III offender under Megan's Law.
An Investigation That Started With a Tip From Tennessee
The case traces back to May 2024, when the FBI's Fort Washington Resident Agency uncovered online conversations between Durfee and a known child-exploitation subject in Tennessee, according to Bucks County District Attorney's Office Crimewatch. Investigators traced a WhatsApp messaging account using the alias Corey Bratton back to Durfee's Croydon residence. The station's report notes that account was used to receive direct messages containing numerous illicit videos and images of young boys.
The inquiry didn't stop there. Durfee's Facebook account, which used the same Corey Bratton alias, was also tied to communication and image sharing, per the same account from Levittown Now. A separate warrant was later served on Meta, the owner of Facebook, for records tied to that account, according to the Lower Bucks Source.
Search Warrant Uncovers a Digital Drive of Images
Investigators executed a search warrant at Durfee's Croydon home on March 14, 2025, seizing multiple electronic devices, the Levittown Now report states. Among the evidence recovered was a digital drive containing hundreds of images depicting prepubescent boys, according to Bucks County District Attorney's Office Crimewatch. Durfee admitted to investigators during the search that the items belonged to him, per the same account.
The case, prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney David O'Beirne, culminated in Durfee's guilty plea in May and this week's sentencing — the final step in a probe that stretched across roughly eighteen months from search warrant to court date.
A Sentence Tied to a Long Prior Record
As DailyVoice.com reports, Durfee's Megan's Law registry record lists earlier offenses dating to 1989 and 1990. He was convicted in 1992 of sexual abuse of children, indecent assault, and involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, and Levittown Now reports that he pleaded guilty in Philadelphia in 2001 to sexual abuse of children involving photographing or filming, receiving a two-and-a-half-to-five-year prison sentence followed by probation. Levittown Now's account similarly describes Durfee's past criminal history as including 1992 convictions for indecent assault, sexual abuse of children through photography or film, and involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, along with a 2001 conviction.
Bucks County District Attorney Joe Khan addressed the sentence directly, saying, “Protecting children from sex offenders remains one of our highest priorities, and this sentence ensures a repeat offender is removed from our community for a very long time.” The statement underscores how Durfee's history factored into the outcome of a case that spanned multiple police agencies and jurisdictions before reaching sentencing this week.
