A 33-year-old man was hospitalized in stable condition Sunday morning after being shot on the 4000 block of Fairhaven Avenue in Curtis Bay, according to Baltimore Police. Officers responded to the scene and found the man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound before he was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Baltimore Police responded to the 4000 block of Fairhaven Avenue and Southern District detectives have since taken over the investigation, according to WBFF. The shooting was one of five that struck Baltimore overnight, part of a stretch of violence in which six people were wounded across the city between 1 a.m. and 9 a.m. Sunday, according to The Baltimore Banner.
A Street With a Violent Recent History
Sunday's shooting happened just one block from the site of a triple shooting that unfolded on the 3900 block of Fairhaven Avenue on January 31, 2026, which left a 15-year-old boy, a 32-year-old man, and a 41-year-old man injured, per CBS News. That case led to arrests in April, when authorities charged three people, including a 17-year-old and a 32-year-old accused of attempted first-degree murder, according to Baltimore Witness. The recurrence of gunfire on the same stretch of road highlights a pattern of localized violence that has persisted even as the city's overall numbers trend in a different direction. Just weeks before Sunday's shooting, Curtis Bay was also the scene of a September 3 road-rage shooting on I-695 in which police traced a suspect's vehicle to a Curtis Bay warehouse, and a September 8 traffic stop that turned up a loaded gun, both covered by Hoodline.
City Anti-Violence Efforts Meet Neighborhood Reality
Mayor Brandon M. Scott expanded Baltimore's Group Violence Reduction Strategy into the Baltimore Police Department's Southern District in July 2025, bringing focused deterrence and social services to Curtis Bay, Brooklyn, and Cherry Hill, according to a statement from the Baltimore City Mayor's Office. The city has also pursued organized drug enforcement in the neighborhood; in April 2025, state and local law enforcement indicted 11 members of a drug-trafficking organization operating on the 4100 block of Morrison Court in Curtis Bay, an operation the mayor's office linked to fentanyl overdoses and local gun violence.
Those efforts have coincided with historic citywide gains. Baltimore recorded 55 homicides through the first six months of 2026, the lowest mid-year figure on record, while non-fatal shooting clearance rates rose to 54 percent, the mayor's office reported in July. Community organizations in Curtis Bay, however, note that the neighborhood continues to grapple with economic challenges tied to lost manufacturing jobs, high poverty rates, and open-air drug markets along its commercial corridors, according to The Well.

Curtis Bay is a waterfront South Baltimore neighborhood of roughly 3,216 residents, where about 51 percent of households rent their homes, according to Niche.
