Cute Robot Japanese Kitchen, the Japanese-inspired restaurant in Walker's Point, has closed. The restaurant was located at 704 S. 2nd St.

Cute Robot opened in August 2024 in a space that had a well-known local history. The address had previously housed The Noble, a New American restaurant that operated there for 12 years after opening in 2011 before quietly shutting down in 2023, according to Urban Milwaukee's business archive. Cute Robot was the next restaurant concept at 704 S. 2nd St.

A Menu Built on Childhood Memory

The restaurant was inspired by Janet Boettner's own childhood. She grew up on a U.S. military base in Okinawa, Japan, starting around 1971, where early exposure to Japanese home cooking shaped a menu she designed as a tribute to her late mother, who passed away in 2014, according to Milwaukee Independent. The Boettners built the restaurant around yoshoku, a style of Japanese comfort food influenced by Western cuisine, with dishes including curries, katsu, omurice, sandos and street fries.

The Boettners weren't newcomers to Milwaukee's restaurant scene. The pair brought more than two decades of local hospitality experience to the venture. Janet Boettner had previously co-owned Konohana, and the Boettners contributed to the Walker's Point tavern Red Maple, according to Urban Milwaukee's earlier reporting. In a municipal liquor license application filed before opening, the restaurant projected that alcohol sales would generate roughly 20% of its overall business revenue.

Cute Robot's shutdown joins other recent closures in Walker's Point. Nearby, Full of Beans Café closed on July 25 after nearly a decade in business, citing owner retirements and rising operating expenses, as Hoodline reported. Earlier in 2026, Walker's Point restaurant Fixture Pizza Pub abruptly suspended operations, with city records later revealing unpaid property taxes dating back to 2021, according to Hoodline's coverage of that closure.
