D1 Training's new Roanoke location is planned for 700 S. US 377, Ste. 110. The sports performance gym will offer personal training, small-group classes for two to four people, large-group sessions, and fitness classes for children age 7 and older.
A report by Community Impact covered the gym's plans for the space. Per Monroe, the Roanoke location is preselling founding memberships at a discounted rate ahead of its debut. Once open, the gym plans to operate Monday through Saturday, staying closed on Sundays.
What the Roanoke Facility Will Look Like
Like other D1 Training gyms, the Roanoke facility is expected to feature indoor turf, a weight room, and equipment designed to mimic the training setups found at college and professional sports facilities. The brand has leaned on star power to sell that pitch nationally — Tim Tebow has led a D1 Training class, part of a roster of athlete co-owners and ambassadors that also includes Von Miller and Chris Paul.
That athlete backing traces back to the company's founding. Former University of Tennessee fullback Will Bartholomew started D1 Training in Nashville in 2001 after a career-ending practice injury tore ligaments in his knee and cut short his playing career, according to D1 Training. He opened the original facility in 2002 at 2,500 square feet, aiming to bring the structure of collegiate athletic training to everyday clients. NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning, Bartholomew's former Tennessee teammate, is a partner.
Renovation Costs and a Booming Corridor
Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filings reviewed by Community Impact in March 2026 show the Roanoke buildout involves a $388,400 renovation converting an existing 3,884-square-foot commercial space along the US 377 corridor. The Roanoke gym's planned opening comes as the youth sports market grows. U.S. household spending on youth sports has climbed 46% since 2019, according to Athletic Business, which also reported that D1's annual athlete visits grew sevenfold from 2021 to 5 million, with the chain now serving more than 100,000 scholastic athletes each year.
Roanoke's own growth helps explain the timing. U.S. Census Bureau figures show the city's population expanded 19% between 2019 and 2023 to nearly 10,000 residents, with local estimates reaching 11,223 by 2026 — a pace that outstripped neighboring Keller and Fort Worth, per the same Community Impact report.
Part of a Larger Texas Push
The Roanoke opening is one piece of a broader expansion strategy in North Texas. D1 Training's 12-unit multi-state expansion agreement with franchise group Elysium Sports and Training LLC kicked off in 2023 and specifically targeted the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex for new buildouts, according to Franchising Magazine USA, which called it the largest multi-unit deal in the company's history at the time.
Entrepreneur magazine ranked D1 Training No. 10 among top U.S. fitness franchises in its 2026 rankings and No. 315 on the most recent Franchise 500 list cited by Princeton Equity Group, according to Princeton Equity Group.
What Franchise Ownership Involves
Opening a D1 Training location isn't cheap for franchisees. Launching a location requires a total initial investment ranging from $161,750 to $711,123, according to Franzy. The Roanoke gym's workouts will follow D1's 5-Star Training System, which incorporates five tenets — dynamic warm-up, performance, strength, core and conditioning, and cool down.
For now, Roanoke residents interested in the gym can look toward founding memberships at a discounted rate.
