Ozone Guidance And Elevated Fire Risk Friday
Ozone Action Days offer guidance for reducing ozone pollution. Sunshine, warmth and stagnant conditions can push ozone pollution higher, so people with breathing sensitivities may want to limit strenuous outdoor activity during the afternoon.
Dry air will also drive relative humidity down to roughly 25% to 35%, particularly east of Interstate 35, where dry grass and other fuels raise the fire risk. Avoid outdoor burning and anything that could throw a spark, including dragging tow chains, discarded cigarettes and hot equipment, and follow any local burn bans.
Weekend Heat Stays In Place
Saturday will be hotter, with a high near 94. Saturday night should stay partly cloudy and mild, with a low near 75 and only a slight chance of rain.
Sunday brings a 20% chance of convection, with possible lingering morning storms and scattered redevelopment in the afternoon.
Rain Chances Rise Tuesday And Wednesday
Monday remains mostly sunny and hot, with another high near 97. The pattern becomes more unsettled Tuesday, when temperatures should reach about 94 and rain chances rise to 30%, followed by a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms Tuesday night.
According to the National Weather Service Fort Worth, the better opportunity for more widespread rain arrives Tuesday into Wednesday as a front and upper-level disturbances move into North Texas. Wednesday and Thursday should bring cooler, 80-degree highs, with possible lingering rain.
For Friday's air-quality response, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality recommends reducing activities that contribute to ozone pollution, such as unnecessary driving, idling, and vehicle and yard-equipment maintenance. The forecast's midweek shift could finally bring some relief from the long run of upper-90s afternoons, but the weekend itself is still firmly in summer mode.
