Dallas is waking up to clear skies Tuesday, but the relatively mild start will give way to a dangerous afternoon as temperatures climb toward 101 degrees. The heat index could reach 106, with the worst conditions arriving during the afternoon and early evening.
Heat Advisory Runs Through Tuesday Evening
The National Weather Service Fort Worth has a Heat Advisory in effect through 8 p.m. Tuesday. South winds of 5 to 10 mph could gust near 20 mph, adding to the strain for people working, exercising or spending extended time outdoors.
Humidity will be lower west of Interstate 35, where gusty winds and very warm temperatures will also create an elevated grass-fire threat. Residents should stay hydrated, take frequent breaks in air conditioning or shade, and avoid leaving children or pets in parked vehicles.
Hot And Mostly Dry Through Saturday
The heat does not let up quickly. Wednesday and Thursday are expected to reach about 100 degrees, followed by a high near 99 on Friday and Saturday, while overnight lows remain mostly in the upper 70s to around 80.
Rain chances stay close to zero through Saturday. A slight chance of showers arrives Sunday, when the high should reach 96, followed by a cooler Monday near 90 with a chance of showers and a few thunderstorms.
Dallas Lists Places To Escape The Heat
For residents who need temporary relief, the City of Dallas says public libraries and recreation centers can be used during regular hours. The city also lists the West Dallas Multipurpose Center and Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center as cooling centers during extreme heat.
