Dallas faces a hot Sunday, with temperatures reaching near 100 by late afternoon before showers and thunderstorms become possible across North Texas tonight.
Heat Builds Before Storms Arrive
Cloud cover will increase Sunday, with possible high-based showers in parts of northwest Texas in the morning and afternoon convection. Winds will be south-southeast at about 10 knots, or approximately 12 mph, with possible gusts up to 20 knots. According to the National Weather Service Fort Worth, storm chances increase from late afternoon into evening as a weak front moves into the region, with the Dallas-Fort Worth forecast calling for roughly a 40% chance of rain Sunday night.
For Dallas and much of the metroplex, storms will be hit-or-miss, but a few could become strong to severe. The main concerns are damaging wind gusts and isolated hail, with the most active storms expected to develop northwest of the metroplex before sliding southeast later in the evening.
Monday Keeps Storms In The Forecast
Monday looks a little cooler but still hot, with a high near 94 and additional showers and thunderstorms possible. Downburst winds could accompany the stronger cells.
Modest Relief Arrives Midweek
Rain chances remain low through the middle of the workweek, with a reinforcing front by Tuesday. Temperatures should be closer to seasonal normals through midweek, followed by slightly above-average temperatures through the middle and end of the workweek.
There are no watches, warnings or advisories listed for Dallas-Fort Worth, but Sunday’s combination of heat and evening storms calls for a little planning. Get outdoor work done earlier, keep water nearby and be ready to move inside if thunder, lightning or gusty winds arrive.
