The high is expected to reach about 100 degrees, with heat-index values near or slightly below the ambient temperature and no rain in the forecast.
Heat And Fire Risk Peak Saturday
South winds will increase to roughly 10 to 15 mph, with occasional gusts near 20 mph, as humidity drops during the afternoon. The National Weather Service Fort Worth office says the combination of dry fuels, low humidity and stronger winds will create an elevated wildfire threat across much of North Texas.
There is no heat headline in effect, but Saturday is still a poor day for unnecessary outdoor exertion during the hottest part of the afternoon. Residents should avoid activities that could spark a grass fire, including outdoor burning, discarded cigarettes and parking hot vehicles on dry grass.
Storm Chances Return Sunday
Sunday will bring another mostly sunny day near 100 degrees. Rain chances remain limited during the day, but showers and thunderstorms become more likely after 7 p.m., when the forecast calls for a 40% chance of precipitation.
The latest outlook calls for a Sunday-to-Monday storm setup, following the heat pattern described in Friday's forecast. Some Sunday evening storms could produce isolated hail or damaging wind gusts, while additional thunderstorms may develop Monday as a weak front moves into North Texas.
Cooler, Drier Pattern Arrives Tuesday
Monday will remain hot but slightly less oppressive, with a high in the low to middle 90s and a 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms. Storms could bring strong downburst winds, especially near and south of Interstate 20.
Temperatures should settle into a cooler, near-seasonal pattern through the middle of the workweek, with overnight lows dropping into the low to mid-70s. Low rain chances are expected to continue through the middle of the workweek.
