A DART paratransit van flipped onto its side early Tuesday morning at the intersection of Webb Chapel Road and Forest Lane in North Dallas, sending its driver and lone passenger to the hospital with injuries described as minor. Dallas Fire-Rescue crews arrived around 6:30 a.m. to find the van resting on its side after a two-vehicle rollover collision.
DART confirmed the crash involved two vehicles but said which one struck which remains unclear, according to NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth. The paratransit driver and the single rider aboard were both hospitalized, with the crash confirmed as a rollover involving the two cars at the Webb Chapel Road and Forest Lane intersection. As reported by KERA News, both the driver and the sole passenger were treated for what were described as minor injuries following the crash.
Fault Still Undetermined at Busy Intersection
Exactly how the rollover unfolded has not been pinned down. DART has not said which vehicle had the right of way or what triggered the crash, and no determination on mechanical failure, road conditions, or driver error has been made public. Investigating officers are required under Texas Transportation Code Section 550.062 to file a formal Peace Officer's Crash Report with the state within 10 days of any injury collision, a process outlined by Hoodline in earlier coverage of a separate Dallas police incident.

Who Runs DART's Paratransit Fleet
DART does not operate its paratransit vans directly. The agency contracts its mobility management services, including paratransit and microtransit, to private vendor Transdev Services, Inc. under an eight-year agreement awarded in June 2024, per Dallas Area Rapid Transit's own announcement of the deal, which saw Transdev take over from previous operator MV Transportation.
That contractor relationship was tested just months before this rollover. In June, Transdev drivers represented by Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1338 ratified a new labor contract, narrowly avoiding a strike that raised concern among the riding public after drivers had authorized a walkout over wages and working conditions earlier that month, the outlet reported.
A Federally Mandated Lifeline for Riders
DART's paratransit service isn't a discretionary perk. Under federal rules enforcing the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, the agency is required to provide curb-to-curb service for riders whose disabilities keep them from using fixed-route buses or trains, with eligibility determined through certification evaluating physical or cognitive limitations, according to Dallas Area Rapid Transit.
The scale of that obligation is significant. DART Paratransit logged 967,180 total passenger trips in fiscal year 2025 across a 700-square-mile service area spanning Dallas and 12 surrounding cities, per the agency's published figures, running alongside DART's fixed-route bus and light rail networks.
Legal Limits on Potential Claims
Should injured riders or drivers pursue legal action, Texas law may limit recovery in qualifying claims against government entities. Under Chapter 101 of the Texas Civil Practice and Remedies Code, Texas law limits personal-injury recovery against government entities to $250,000 per person and $500,000 per occurrence, according to Angel Reyes & Associates. Private contracted carriers are not government entities and are not subject to TTCA caps. The same law waives governmental immunity for vehicle crashes but sets a mandatory six-month window for filing a claim notice.
Part of a Rough Year for DART Safety
Tuesday's rollover adds to a string of DART-related crashes across the region this year. In August, a DART Green Line train struck a passenger vehicle in Southeast Dallas, critically injuring and trapping the driver until crews used heavy extrication tools to free them, as Hoodline previously reported. A DART Blue Line incident was also referenced.
The August light rail incident did not involve DART's paratransit fleet, and no cause has been established for Tuesday's van rollover. DART has not indicated when further findings, including the required crash report, might clarify how the two vehicles collided at Webb Chapel Road and Forest Lane.
