A 19-year-old Dearborn man is being held in the Wayne County Jail on $500,000 bond after Michigan State Police say investigators identified suspected online conduct involving child sexually abusive material and alleged attempts to push others toward self-harm. Mochtaba Ahmed Alabudi now faces ten felony counts that carry a combined maximum of up to 140 years in prison.
According to The Detroit News, Alabudi was arrested after the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and Michigan's Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force identified the suspected conduct. Michigan State Police attributed the findings to those two organizations, saying Alabudi may have distributed illicit content on the internet and enticed others to commit self-harm.
Ten Felony Counts, Up to 140 Years
Alabudi faces five counts of using a computer to commit a crime, one count of child sexually abusive activity, and four counts of aggravated possession of child sexually abusive material. The report notes all of the charges are felonies, and cumulatively they are punishable by up to 140 years in prison.
Officers searched Alabudi's Dearborn home and seized digital evidence as part of the investigation, the same report states. A Michigan State Police spokesperson declined to provide additional information about the allegations against him.
Arraignment and Next Court Date
Alabudi was arraigned Wednesday in Dearborn's 19th District Court, where Judge Mark W. Somers set his bond at $500,000. Online jail records list him as remaining in the Wayne County Jail, and per the same account, his next hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. next Wednesday in Dearborn. Online court records list no attorney for Alabudi.
Similar Cases Elsewhere in Michigan
Alabudi's case follows a pattern seen in other Michigan investigations tied to the same task force structure. In 2023, Michigan State Police arrested 39-year-old Howell resident Thomas Paul Flanders following an investigation by the MSP Computer Crimes Unit and Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, according to Livingston Daily. That investigation began with a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, and police searched Flanders' residence and seized digital evidence before he was arraigned in the 53rd District Court, facing three counts of aggravated possession of child sexually abusive material and three counts of using a computer to commit a crime — charges the outlet reported could carry up to 20 years each.
A separate 2023 case in Benton Harbor followed a comparable path. Michigan State Police arrested 44-year-old Jamie Lee Flewellen after investigators seized digital evidence involving the uploading of child sexual exploitation material from his home, WWMT reported. Flewellen was arraigned in the 5th District Court on aggravated possession of child sexually abusive material and using a computer to commit a crime, facing up to 10 years in prison on each count.
