Bargain hunters in Denver have a new reason to circle their calendars: Arc Thrift Stores is opening a pay-by-the-pound outlet at 255 S. Hooker Street on October 5. The store will let shoppers buy clothing and household goods by weight, while select furniture and media items get individual price tags instead.
According to Denver7, the outlet will price clothing, shoes, purses, accessories and hats at $1.99 per pound. Housewares, bric-a-brac, kitchen goods, small appliances, bed and bath items and fabric will go for $0.99 per pound, giving shoppers a much lower per-item cost than a typical thrift store checkout.
Media items and stuffed animals are priced individually. Books, CDs, DVDs, VHS tapes, cassette tapes, records and stuffed animals will each cost a flat $0.25, per the station's report.
Furniture Priced By Tag Color, Not By The Pound
Furniture at the new outlet won't be weighed at all — it's sorted by size and marked with a colored tag. Small furniture items tagged in red will cost $5 each, medium pieces tagged in white will run $10 each, and large items tagged in blue will cost $15 each, the same report notes.
The outlet is set to be open seven days a week from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m., according to the company website as cited in the article. That kind of daily availability mirrors the rhythm of a discount retail operation built around volume and turnover rather than curated browsing.
How Arc's Model Compares To Goodwill's Outlets
Arc won't be the only outlet-style thrift option in the Denver area. Goodwill of Colorado operates several outlet locations in the region, according to Goodwill of Colorado. The nonprofit says it operates more than 50 retail stores across Colorado.
Goodwill also frames its retail operation around a mission-driven pitch, saying more than 90 cents of every dollar spent in its stores goes directly to community impact programs. The organization says those programs benefit more than 148,000 Coloradans annually through career placement, education and training, and other community services.
Shoppers weighing where to spend their thrifting dollars may consider sustainability alongside Arc's per-pound pricing.
Goodwill's posted return policy, effective since August 2025, allows qualifying items to be returned within 14 days for in-store credit issued as a gift card. It remains to be seen whether Arc's new outlet will offer a comparable return option once it opens its doors.
