A new fragrance studio inside Hudson's Detroit tower is asking customers a question most perfume counters never bother with: what do you remember? At Every Human Detroit, a machine called ScentRobot takes the answer and turns it into a bottled scent nobody else on Earth will ever own, with prices starting at just $25.
Detroit Wick, described as a Corktown-based sensory and fragrance experience company, opened Every Human Detroit at 4000 Nick Gilbert Way in downtown Detroit, according to MLive.com. The concept is a partnership between Detroit Wick and Every Human, which WXYZ describes as the world's first AI-driven scent platform. Every Human Detroit is billed as the first standalone Every Human location in the United States, following outposts in Dubai, London, Vienna and Copenhagen, per the same report from the station.
How the ScentRobot Builds a Scent From Scratch
The process starts with conversation, not a sniff test. Customers answer a series of personal, random and memory-driven prompts, and the station's report notes one option generates three different fragrance variations based on how a person responds. There's also a chat-based method that builds a single unique profile out of the customer's back-and-forth with the platform.
Once the questions are answered, ScentRobot takes over, mixing the fragrance in front of the customer and giving it a name before the bottle is packaged to take home. The whole experience moves fast: it takes about five minutes to interact with the AI and another five minutes for the machine to physically create the fragrance, per the same account. The formulas draw from 52 fragrance accords as building blocks.
Hundreds of Billions of Possible Combinations
Detroit Wick co-founder Doug Schwartz put the scale of the system simply, saying “nothing will happen twice.” MLive.com reports the fragrance system can produce over 500 billion fragrance profiles, while dbusiness.com separately describes up to 500 billion possible scent combinations in its own coverage of the launch, a claim WXYZ also echoed in its reporting. Whatever the precise figure, the math behind 52 accords is meant to guarantee that no two customers walk out with the same bottle.
If someone falls in love with their scent, they aren't limited to one bottle forever. Every Human Detroit ships nationwide refills of the same formula, and the online EveryHuman platform separately allows users to create new variations of existing scents or pull from a library of in-house creations, according to everyhuman.com.
Booking a Session at Hudson's Tower
Sessions run from 30 minutes to 1.5 hours depending on group size, according to dbusiness.com. Every Human Detroit welcomes walk-ins, and it also offers private bookings, corporate outings and special occasions for groups of 10 to 30 guests, arranged through [email protected]. For a downtown tower already known for retail and dining, the addition gives shoppers a reason to leave with something that literally cannot be bought anywhere else.
