Figueroa St. in Highland Park, proposing full alcohol service with hours running from 3 p.m. to 2 a.m. daily. The filing concerns the address, formerly home to the beloved oyster bar and live jazz venue.
According to public filings cited by WhatNow, Double Dutchie is seeking to operate as a bar with on-site sale and consumption of a full line of alcoholic beverages. The filing also identifies an applicant behind the project. The applicant did not respond to WhatNow Los Angeles' request for project details and an opening timeline before publication, per that outlet's report.
A Space With Serious Musical Pedigree
The address carries weight in Highland Park's nightlife history. Cocktail bar ETA originally opened at 5630 N. Figueroa St. in April 2016 under co-owners Matt Glassman, Ryan Julio, and James Bygrave, who named it as a nod to the fictional Enfield Tennis Academy in David Foster Wallace's novel Infinite Jest, according to the Los Angeles Times. WhatNow's reporting describes the former tenant as an oyster bar with live jazz performances, and the space became far more than a neighborhood hangout.
Guitarist Jeff Parker established a weekly Monday night residency at ETA starting in 2016, a run that eventually produced critically acclaimed live recordings including the 2022 double album Mondays at the Enfield Tennis Academy, according to Lush Life Records. ETA closed permanently, and coverage from ColoradoBoulevard.net put the closing date at December 30, 2023, noting that a crowd wrapped around Avenue 57 for the final night of service after seven years in business. Even after the closure, the musical thread didn't fully break: the Lodge Room, a live performance space located a few hundred feet away at 104 N. Avenue 56, hosted the Jeff Parker ETA IVtet in August 2025 to record their live album Happy Today, per Lush Life Records.

If approved, Double Dutchie would join Figueroa Street's dining and nightlife corridor in Northeast Los Angeles. Modern Korean gastropub Yi Cha opened on North Figueroa Street in October 2025, taking over the former Otoño site, as Hoodline previously reported. The corridor's nightlife continues to evolve.
