A new ticketed attraction is coming to downtown Los Angeles in November, bringing the world of Arrakis to the Arts District. “Dune: The Experience” will feature costumes, props and life-size vehicles from the film franchise, with an immersive walk-through designed around the series’ desert setting.
The attraction is planned to run at least through the end of December, according to the Los Angeles Times, extending its run to the Dec. 18 theatrical release of Denis Villeneuve's “Dune: Part Three.” Fever is producing the experience with Legendary Entertainment.
The report describes about a dozen rooms, each intended for roughly five minutes of exploration, with projection-based environments, hidden messages in ancient carvings and a photo opportunity with Paul Atreides' throne. The design also draws on the Bene Gesserit, using touch, sound and visual sensations. Rob Shalhoub, a team lead at Fever, said of the recreated environments: “We've re-created these environments in a very interactive and immersive way.”
A Hand-in-a-Box Test and a Possible Sandworm Ride
One participatory feature is a so-called “test of humanity,” in which visitors place a hand inside a box. The experience is intended to be startling and unsettling, according to the report.
The attraction will also put visitors in an Arrakis desert environment, with the possibility of discovering whether they can ride a sandworm. Amado Trevino, director of interactive media and experiences for Legendary Entertainment, described another planned moment: “You get to take Paul's throne and see the desert come alive around you,” he said, presenting exploration as part of the experience.
Tickets, Timing and Where It Goes Next
The attraction will include an area serving themed food and cocktails. Tickets go on sale Oct. 7 through the official “Dune: The Experience” webpage, with prices ranging from $30 to $45.
Downtown context and ticket prices
The Arts District venue sits within a broader city planning context: Los Angeles City Planning describes a goal of sustaining and reinforcing activities and industries that contribute to cultural legacies across Downtown neighborhoods. That citywide goal provides context for the location, but does not describe this attraction’s specific venue or land use. California’s hidden-fees law covers event tickets, and the California Department of Justice says advertised prices for covered goods and services must include mandatory charges, with exceptions including government-imposed transaction taxes or fees. The announced $30-to-$45 range alone does not establish which charges are included.
The Arts District is the first announced stop; the experience is intended to tour after its Los Angeles run, but future cities and dates have not been announced. For now, the downtown attraction is scheduled to open in November, ahead of the Dec. 18 release of Villeneuve's “Dune: Part Three.”
