Downtown Los Angeles is facing hot conditions. Humid air could push the heat index as high as 116.
The National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard office has issued a Heat Advisory from 10 a.m. Tuesday through 8 p.m. Thursday for Downtown Los Angeles and much of the surrounding region. The advisory covers the middle of the week.
Peak Heat Arrives Before Midday
Wednesday is expected to be hot. Humidity adds to the discomfort.
Residents should limit strenuous outdoor activity, drink plenty of fluids and use air conditioning or another cool indoor space when possible. The National Weather Service also advises checking on older adults, young children and neighbors who may not have reliable cooling, and never leaving children or pets in a parked vehicle.
Heat Health Risks in Los Angeles County
The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health launched a Heat-Related Illness and Mortality Dashboard on May 27, 2026, to track countywide heat-related emergency-department visits and deaths. The information provided shows daily heat-related emergency-department visit rates, monthly heat-related deaths and trends over time. According to the county health department’s Office of Environmental Justice and Climate Health, older adults, young children, outdoor workers, athletes and people with chronic medical conditions are among those especially sensitive to the health effects of extreme heat.
According to Los Angeles City Planning, some communities have the highest heat-island vulnerabilities and insufficient tree canopy, based on the “Los Angeles 1 Million Tree Canopy Cover Assessment.”
Cooling Arrives Before A Milder Weekend
Wednesday night will remain unusually warm, with a low near 74, followed by Thursday with a high near 95 in central Los Angeles. Extreme heat warnings continue through Thursday evening, while Friday should ease to cooler conditions before temperatures settle into milder weather over the weekend.

People heading toward the coast should also take local conditions into account.
