LEGOLAND Discovery Center San Antonio is gearing up for a roughly $3 million renovation that will reshape about 3,060 square feet of the downtown attraction, with construction slated to begin in early November and wrap up in early April 2027. The project will overhaul existing sales space and staff rooms, add a brand-new LEGO store, and untangle the attraction's operations from those of its next-door neighbor, SEA LIFE San Antonio Aquarium.
The upgrades were first detailed by MySA, which reported that the two attractions currently share a suite at the Shops at Rivercenter but that the renovation is tied to separating their operations going forward. LEGO Group Senior Communications Manager Clinton Jeff told the outlet that detailed plans and timings are still being developed, and that further information on the construction schedule, any temporary operational changes, or additional attraction updates is not yet available.
What the Renovation Covers
Per the same report, the $3 million project — a figure drawn from a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filing, which is subject to change — will touch roughly 3,060 square feet of the space. That includes improvements to the existing sales floor and staff rooms, plus the buildout of a new standalone LEGO store. LEGOLAND Discovery Center opened in downtown San Antonio in April 2019, according to the MySA report. SEA LIFE San Antonio Aquarium's opening date carries some conflicting history: the MySA report identifies the aquarium as having opened in May 2019, while a 2021 roundup from Alamo City Moms described the aquarium as still expected to open sometime that year, with no firm opening date announced at the time.
A Family Attraction With Rides, 4D Movies and a LEGO Cafe
LEGOLAND Discovery Center's own site touts more than 12 attractions, rides and experiences, including a 4D cinema, a small theme park and other child-centric activities, plus a LEGO-themed cafe serving beverages and snacks, according to LEGOLAND Discovery Center San Antonio. The company describes the offering as running “from interactive rides to themed play zones,” with rides, 4D movies and LEGO-building activities all part of the mix. A regular admission ticket costs around $22, per the company's website.
Jeremy Aguillen, who served as general manager, said the attraction aimed to provide high-quality educational and interactive fun and to add diversity to hands-on experiences for residents and visitors, according to MySA's report. The aquarium next door, meanwhile, advertises encounters with more than 5,000 creatures, according to SEA LIFE San Antonio, which markets itself at the Shops at Rivercenter alongside combo tickets with LEGOLAND Discovery Center. A similar side-by-side pairing exists in North Texas, where LEGOLAND Discovery Center Dallas/Fort Worth is also described as sitting next to its own SEA LIFE Aquarium, offering rides, 4D movies and LEGO-building activities.
Halloween Event Still on the Calendar Before Construction Begins
Before crews move in, the attraction has a Halloween-themed LEGO adult night planned for Friday, October 23, 2026. The event includes build challenges, a chance to meet a real master model builder, and LEGO movie shorts screened in the 4D theater — giving visitors one more chance to experience the space in its current layout before the renovation work gets underway in November.
