A car crashed into a home on Alachua Street in Orange County late Wednesday night, and the driver did not stick around to explain what happened. Troopers say the man behind the wheel abandoned his vehicle at the scene and took off on foot, setting off an overnight search that ended with his arrest early Thursday.
According to FOX 35 Orlando, the crash happened around 11:20 p.m. Wednesday when 23-year-old Andriu Tomas Rojas Ozuna crashed a 2013 Dodge Charger into the residence. Florida Highway Patrol released the details of the crash and the arrest that followed.
Troopers say Rojas Ozuna left the Charger behind and ran from the scene rather than stopping to deal with the aftermath. It is unclear what led him to crash into the home in the first place, and that piece of the puzzle remains unresolved.
Troopers Track Him Down by Morning
Investigators did not have to look far. FHP arrested Rojas Ozuna early Thursday at the address listed as the registered owner of the Charger, the same report notes. He was then taken to the Orange County Jail, booked on a charge of leaving the scene of a crash involving property damage.
That charge carries real weight under Florida law. State statute requires any driver involved in a crash resulting in vehicle or property damage to stop, return to the scene, and remain there while meeting legal obligations, according to Florida Statute 316.061. A violation of that requirement is classified as a second-degree misdemeanor, and courts can order restitution for any property damage the driver caused.
