Beaumont Police were called to the 3700 block of East Lucas Drive around 2:45 a.m. Friday after reports of a stabbing, arriving to find a man bleeding from a knife wound. Officers administered first aid on scene before emergency medical crews arrived and transported the victim to a hospital, where he is recovering from injuries described as minor.
According to The Examiner, a preliminary investigation found the victim had been involved in an altercation with another man, who stabbed him before the victim was taken to the hospital. The Examiner also reported that patrol officers gave the bleeding victim immediate first aid before EMS arrived, a detail underscoring how quickly responding units acted at the scene. The investigation remains ongoing, and it is not yet known what sparked the physical dispute or whether the suspect has been identified.
Crime scene investigators spent the early morning hours combing the block for physical evidence. Per Cedar News, officers followed a blood trail left behind after the stabbing as they worked to piece together what happened and where the suspect may have gone.

This is not the first time East Lucas Drive has seen serious knife violence. The victim in Friday's stabbing was taken to a hospital for treatment, though the article does not specify which facility. CHRISTUS Southeast Texas St. Elizabeth in Beaumont serves as the region's only designated Level III Trauma Center between Houston and Baton Rouge, and it typically handles the area's acute trauma and stab wound transports, according to CHRISTUS Health.
What Charges a Suspect Could Face
If a suspect is identified and arrested, Texas law provides a clear path for prosecution. Under Texas Penal Code § 22.02, assaulting another person with a deadly weapon such as a knife constitutes aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony carrying penalties of two to 20 years in prison and fines up to $10,000, according to Ramos Law.
Violent Crime Trends Across Beaumont and Texas
The stabbing adds to a string of violent incidents Beaumont Police have investigated in recent weeks, including an August 26 shooting in the 1400 block of Magnolia Street that led to an aggravated assault arrest, as previously reported by The Examiner. Department leaders have leaned on newer tools to help crack these cases; Hoodline previously reported that the Real-Time Crime Center, established in January 2024, has grown to nine analysts monitoring more than 3,600 integrated camera feeds to help detectives track suspects.
Despite the recent run of violent calls, the broader numbers point in a different direction. Beaumont Police Department Uniform Crime Reporting data show the city recorded 966 aggravated assault cases in 2024, a 19% drop from the 1,191 cases logged in 2023. That local decline mirrors a statewide trend: the Texas Department of Public Safety's 2025 Crime in Texas report found that overall violent crime across the state fell by 13.19% between 2024 and 2025.
For now, investigators are still working to determine what triggered the fight on East Lucas Drive and whether the blood trail or other evidence collected at the scene will lead them to a suspect. Beaumont Police have not released additional details about the man accused of the stabbing.
