A man in his 40s was shot to death in his own front yard in east Las Vegas on Tuesday evening, and police say the gunman was a neighbor. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department says the killing followed a dispute between the two neighbors that had been simmering for weeks before it turned deadly.
Officers responded to several 911 calls reporting a shooting in the 5700 block of Pavot Court, near Vegas Valley Drive, at around 5 p.m. on Tuesday, according to KSNV. When they arrived, they found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds in his front yard. Officers rendered aid, but medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene.
Police said the victim, who was in his 40s, and the suspect, a man in his mid-20s, were neighbors who had been locked in a weeks-long dispute before the shooting. Investigators say the suspect came out of his house carrying a rifle and opened fire on the victim after he arrived home and got out of his car, striking him several times.
Suspect Turned Himself In When Officers Arrived
According to the same report, the suspect went back into his own house after the shooting rather than fleeing the area. When officers arrived on scene, he turned himself in and was arrested without further incident, police said.
Homicide Lieutenant Robert Price told reporters that shootings stemming from disputes between neighbors are not something investigators see often in that part of the city. He said incidents like this within the area are uncommon, according to the report from the same outlet.

KSNV characterized the shooting as an isolated event, while FOX5 Las Vegas reported that there was no threat to the public. The specific nature of the dispute between the two men has not been disclosed.
