Einstein Bros. Bagels has opened its first Carson City bakery at 3849 S. Carson St., taking over a space near Raley's that spent more than a decade as a Jimmy John's sandwich shop. The opening, alongside a second new bakery in Northwest Reno, doubles the chain's Northern Nevada footprint from two locations to four and is expected to create about 30 jobs combined.
The Carson City shop revamped the former Jimmy John's location for several months before opening, according to Carson Now. That Jimmy John's had operated in the South Carson Street corridor near Raley's from 2013 until its closure in 2025, per Wanderlog, with South Carson Street serving as one of the state capital's primary retail arteries. The new Northwest Reno bakery, at 1650 Robb Drive, Suite B1, joins existing Einstein Bros. locations on Kietzke Lane in South Reno and Disc Drive in Sparks, according to the company's own location listings.
Adam Modzel said opening two more bakeries continues Einstein Bros. Bagels' investment in a community that welcomed the brand, per Carson Now's report. The Carson City bakery is open seven days a week from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., serving bagels, cream cheese spreads, breakfast sandwiches, coffee and other menu items. For a limited time, the outlet notes, the chain is offering a free egg sandwich with any in-store purchase when customers mention promotional code 9080 at checkout.
A Redesigned Storefront Built Around the Bagel Case
Both new Northern Nevada bakeries feature the company's Elevate the Morning store design, according to a spokesperson cited by the outlet's report. That layout includes a prominent bagel display, updated interior design and a designated area for mobile-order pickups. The design centers on a 360-degree glass bagel case placed front-and-center at the ordering line, reversing earlier store formats that prioritized kitchen efficiency over bagel visibility, according to Foodservice Equipment Reports.
The prototype was first tested in Cincinnati, Ohio, which Einstein Bros. designated its primary national innovation hub for the layout, per Daily Coffee News. Corporate design teams gathered guest traffic insights across Midwest test bakeries — including converted Bruegger's Bagels locations — before standardizing the format for new builds nationwide in 2026. Wages and Hours for the New Jobs
Job postings from parent company Bagel Brands show starting wages for team member positions at the new Robb Drive location in Reno set at $12 per hour, according to a listing on Indeed. The postings also advertise daytime-only scheduling and 401(k) matching benefits, a combination fast-casual chains often use to attract service workers in Northern Nevada.
Part of a Bigger National Push
Einstein Bros. Bagels has more than 700 locations across the country and plans to add more than 300 by 2030, eventually surpassing 1,000 stores nationwide, per the Carson Now report. The chain is part of Panera Brands, which also includes Panera Bread and Caribou Coffee. That combined fast-casual group encompasses over 3,700 locations worldwide, according to Wikipedia, and traces back to JAB Holding Company's 2014 acquisition of Einstein Noah Restaurant Group and the 2021 merger that created Panera Brands.
The expansion push comes as the U.S. bagel market, valued at roughly $5.8 billion in 2025, is projected to grow at a 5.0% compound annual rate through 2033, according to Grand View Research. Einstein Bros. Bagels itself generated $667.2 million in U.S. sales in 2025, a nearly 3% increase over the prior year, while expanding its domestic footprint by 4.5% to 720 operating units, per Nation's Restaurant News. A June 2026 survey found 55% of Americans rank bagels above donuts for breakfast, while loyalty program traffic among rewards members under 35 surged 22% year-over-year, according to Quartz.
Similar store openings have played out across the country this year, including recent Einstein Bros. debuts in Mt. Juliet's fourth bagel shop and a converted Texas storefront outside San Antonio. Whether Carson City's $12-an-hour entry wage holds up in Northern Nevada's labor market, and how independent local bagel shops respond to the new competition, remain open questions as the chain pushes toward its 1,000-store goal.
