Joshua Beck, a former Cudahy High School teacher, is expected to plead guilty to federal charges alleging he possessed and distributed child pornography, months after an FBI search of his Waukesha home turned up methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and dozens of images of child sexual abuse material. The 46-year-old is currently under home detention with location monitoring while his case moves through the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin.
According to Greater Milwaukee Today, Beck has agreed to plead guilty to one count of possessing child pornography and one count of distributing child pornography, while prosecutors would dismiss a second possession count as part of the plea agreement. Federal charges against Beck also included a count of receiving child pornography.
The case traces back to a search warrant executed at Beck's home on East Sunset Drive, which was first reported in April. At the time, fox6now.com reported that Beck, then identified as 45 years old, was the subject of an FBI investigation. The Cudahy School District said in a statement that Beck was not present in a district building or actively working in the district, adding that the safety and well-being of its students and staff remained its priority.
Meth, Syringes and Pipes Found During Search
The same search that led to the federal charges also produced a state drug case. Per tmj4.com, the criminal complaint states investigators found 43.9 grams of methamphetamine, 30 plastic sandwich bags containing suspected meth, 28 meth pipes with residue, and 57 unused syringes at the home. Waukesha County prosecutors charged Beck with felony possession of methamphetamine and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia in connection with those items.
The station's report also noted that the FBI confirmed it was working with the Waukesha Police Department on the case. A separate report from wtmj.com, published in April, described the initial subject of the FBI search as related to child pornography, even as the charges reported at that time were limited to state drug and paraphernalia counts — reflecting how the investigation expanded over the following months into the federal case Beck now faces.
Sentencing Recommendation and Release Conditions
Under the federal plea agreement, the parties have jointly recommended a seven-year prison sentence, and Beck faces five years of supervised release. Greater Milwaukee Today reports that the U.S. Attorney's Office has set his sentencing for October 1, 2026. Beck is being held under home detention with location monitoring overseen by the United States Probation Office, and his release conditions restrict computer and internet access unless approved by probation, with any approved use subject to a monitoring and tracking program.
His release conditions also include no contact with anyone under age 18. Separately, Beck also faces a state methamphetamine case.
Attorney Points to Mitigating Factors
Beck's attorney, Mark Kershek, said his client has an excellent character background and mitigating factors, characterizing the conduct as more addiction-fueled behavior than deviancy. The Cudahy School District released a statement following Beck's arrest saying it takes the matter very seriously and is cooperating fully with law enforcement, though the district did not return an email seeking further comment by Thursday.
