A 17-year-old is being charged as an adult after a wrong-way, deadly DUI crash in Fayette County left a woman dead. The teen was behind the wheel when the crash happened, and prosecutors have moved to try the case in adult court rather than juvenile proceedings.
CBS News Pittsburgh reported that the 17-year-old was involved in a wrong-way, deadly DUI crash that killed a woman in Fayette County. A head-on crash tied to impaired driving left one woman dead, and the driver, despite being a minor, is now facing adult charges.
A Familiar and Tragic Pattern on Pennsylvania Roads
A separate Pennsylvania case involved a teenager charged in connection with a fatal DUI crash. In Berks County, an 18-year-old Spring Township resident was charged in connection with a September 2024 crash in Tilden Township that killed one juvenile and injured another, according to Berks Weekly. That defendant, identified in the outlet's reporting as Orsag, was also 17 at the time of the crash.
Authorities said Orsag was driving southbound on Route 61 in a 2009 Toyota Camry at roughly 75 mph in a 55 mph zone before striking the rear of a turning tractor-trailer, per the same account. A toxicology report later showed a blood alcohol concentration between .121% and .133%, along with the presence of alcohol, THC and benzodiazepines. A warrant for Orsag's arrest was ultimately issued on July 23, 2025, nearly a year after the crash.
Fayette County's History With Wrong-Way DUI Tragedies
Fayette County has seen this kind of devastation before. A 2022 wrong-way DUI crash there killed 41-year-old Brian Gilchrist and his 18-year-old son, Joshua Gilchrist, according to CBS News Pittsburgh. Authorities said driver Dylan Healey was impaired when he crossed into oncoming traffic on Route 40 near Uniontown, striking the vehicle carrying the father and son.
The earlier crash also involved a wrong-way collision and a fatality in Fayette County.
