A federal jury in Sherman is hearing a case alleging that Charles and Marina Brooks conspired to commit wire fraud in a multimillion-dollar scheme involving around 100 victims, including Hispanic investors. Prosecutors with the Eastern District of Texas say money was solicited for cryptocurrency ventures and entertainment technology projects, including hologram systems and concert series.
Indictment and arrest
The couple was indicted in December 2023 and arrested at their Hackberry Creek home in Irving, according to Irving Weekly. Dallas Headlines reported that their daughter, Crystal Brooks, was also named in the original federal indictment.
Trial details reported by local outlets
Dallas Headlines reported that the investment opportunities were promoted through radio programs and marketing seminars, and that the Brooks family was associated with DFW Vision International LLC and Vision MI LLC. The outlet also reported that one witness said she invested $273,000 in projects connected to the family, and that roughly 20 investors gathered outside the Grayson County federal courthouse during the proceedings.
A significant portion of investor money was allegedly used for personal expenses, according to NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth.
Potential consequences
If convicted, Charles and Marina Brooks could face up to 20 years in prison, as well as a fine and restitution. The possible prison term is reported by Irving Weekly.
