A physical fight on River Willow Place in Tampa turned deadly Sunday afternoon, leaving one person dead of a gunshot wound and detectives working to piece together what sparked the violence. Tampa police say the shooter stayed at the scene and is cooperating with investigators, a detail that could shape whether the case ends in charges or a self-defense finding.
Officers were sent to the 13000 block of River Willow Place at roughly 1:15 p.m. Sunday, according to Tampa police, as reported by WTSP. By the time first responders arrived, the victim had already suffered a fatal gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Tampa Free Press. Police have not released the victim's name, age or gender, and say they are still working to confirm the victim's identity and notify next of kin.

Shooter Remained on Scene, Detectives Say
Per the Tampa Free Press report, the shooter did not flee after the gunfire and is now cooperating with detectives working the case. A cooperating shooter who stays put is not unprecedented in Tampa's recent violent-crime caseload. In July, a security guard at Emperor's Gentlemen's Club on East Adamo Drive shot and killed a patron during a physical brawl, remaining on scene and cooperating with detectives, with no charges announced at the time, as Hoodline previously reported.
