A fisherman missing since Sept. 7 was found alive on Sept. 9 near the headwaters of Cave Run Lake in Daniel Boone National Forest. Responders transported him by boat to the Bangor Boat Ramp, where emergency medical personnel took over, according to The Courier-Journal and LEX 18.
How the search developed
The man had entered the remote area with a fishing partner. When the partner returned without him, search-and-rescue personnel began looking for the fisherman, with the initial effort continuing into the night. LEX 18 reported that Wolfe County Search & Rescue, Powell County Search & Rescue, Menifee County Fire Protection District and the Menifee County Sheriff’s Office were among the agencies involved.

At about 7:30 a.m. on Sept. 9, Eighth District game wardens were called to assist Menifee County Search and Rescue. Kentucky State Police Aviation identified smoke in the area, and wardens used drones equipped with thermal imaging to locate the campfire and the fisherman. Responders then reached the site by boat, according to The Courier-Journal’s account of a Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources Law Enforcement Division post.
