Gabriel Saez, the jockey who rode Proud Spell to victory in the 2008 Kentucky Oaks, was arrested at his Fisherville home on Sept. 16 and charged with fourth-degree domestic violence. The charge is described as involving a minor injury.

The Courier-Journal reported Saez's arrest and fourth-degree domestic violence charge.
He was charged with one count of domestic violence in the fourth degree.
Bond, Court Dates and What Comes Next
Saez was appointed a public defender, and his bond was set at $5,000, the same report notes. Under Kentucky Revised Statutes 403.720, domestic violence and abuse includes physical injury, serious physical injury, stalking, sexual assault, strangulation, assault, or fear of imminent specified harm between family members or members of an unmarried couple, according to the Kentucky General Assembly.

The Panama native had won more than 1,200 races by 2019, including that 2008 Kentucky Oaks aboard Proud Spell, a moment WAVE once described as him booting the filly to victory.
