Three people were injured Thursday after a 25-foot fishing boat slammed into rocks near the north side of the Golden Gate Bridge in Marin County, according to the San Francisco Fire Department. Rescuers from multiple agencies converged on the scene to pull the injured from the water and get them to shore for treatment.
The San Francisco Fire Department reported that three people were injured when the fishing boat crashed into rocks near the bridge, according to ABC7 Bay Area. Authorities responded to reports of the vessel collision on the north side of the bridge in Marin County on Thursday, per the same outlet.
The San Francisco Police Department Marine Unit transported the three people who were aboard the boat to the Marin County shoreline for treatment, the station's report states. The U.S. Coast Guard and Marin County fire departments also responded to the rescue effort, according to the article.
A Familiar Stretch of Water for Boating Trouble
This is not the first time a fishing vessel has run into trouble along this same stretch near the bridge. In September 2016, the Coast Guard rescued 15 people and a dog from a fishing boat that began taking on water west of the Golden Gate Bridge, according to the Marin Independent Journal.
That earlier incident involved the 50-foot vessel New Seeker, which was taking on water near Sausalito's Kirby Cove after it ran aground and hit rocks, the Marin Independent Journal reported. One passenger suffered a head laceration and was treated by paramedics at the scene, the newspaper noted. The Coast Guard sent two boats to that 2016 rescue, and the Southern Marin Fire Protection District, Marin County Fire Department and National Park Service personnel also took part in the response.
A separate account of the 2016 incident, published by Patch, described the vessel as a 50-foot-long sportfishing boat that became grounded at Kirby Cove in the Marin Headlands after reportedly hitting rocks below the north end of the bridge. Rescue teams with the Coast Guard Golden Gate Station responded with two boats, while the Southern Marin Fire Department brought a third, according to Patch.
Details on what led to Thursday's collision, including the cause and the extent of the three injuries, have not been released. The identities of those aboard the boat also have not been made public.
