The Tarrant County medical examiner’s office has identified the woman killed after being struck by a freight train in south Fort Worth as 36-year-old Annason Phothisarath. She died at about 7 a.m. on Sept. 14 near the 500 block of West Bolt Street, just outside the campus of Trinity Basin Preparatory, a charter school serving roughly 500 students in fifth through eighth grade.
According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, witnesses told police that Phothisarath appeared to be trying to jump between train cars when she was struck. A 911 caller reported that a woman had been hit by a train, and Fort Worth police recorded the incident, the newspaper reported.
The medical examiner's office had not yet determined the cause or manner of death as of the newspaper's report. That determination remains pending, and no additional details about the incident have been released.
A Campus Steps From the Tracks
Trinity Basin Preparatory's Bolt Campus sits at 412 West Bolt Street, just east of Highway I-35W and behind La Gran Plaza, according to the school's own description of its location. The middle school campus enrolls fifth through eighth graders, with the school stating it currently serves approximately 500 students.
The proximity of the fatal strike to an active school campus adds a layer of concern for families in the area, though the report from the Star-Telegram does not indicate the incident occurred during school hours or that students witnessed it directly.
Part of a Broader Pattern of Rail Fatalities
Fatal train strikes involving pedestrians have surfaced elsewhere in recent months. In Las Cruces, New Mexico, a 35-year-old woman was killed in July when a southbound BNSF train struck her while she was walking along the tracks near Brown Road just before midnight, according to KTSM. That woman was pronounced dead at the scene, and the train stopped afterward, temporarily blocking several intersections while officers investigated, the station reported.
Closer to home, Fort Worth police were separately investigating other train-related incidents in mid-August, including a case where a man was struck by a train and another where a body was found near railroad tracks, according to a report from WFAA. Details on those cases remain limited.
No further information about Phothisarath's death has been made public, and the medical examiner's review remains ongoing.
