Seven tango couples, four of them World Champion couples, will take the stage inside the Gold Room of the Millennium Biltmore Hotel on Saturday for the world premiere of GARUFA: Tango Showtime, a separately ticketed production taking place during a four-day Argentine tango gathering in downtown Los Angeles.
The show is set for Saturday, Oct. 3, at the historic hotel at 506 South Grand Avenue, according to gavitotangofestival.com. Admission is not included with regular Gavito Tango Festival passes, and organizers describe the performance as open to the general public, including festival attendees, friends, families and first-time tango audiences.
The lineup brings together some of the biggest names in competitive tango. Diego Ortega and Aldana Silveyra, the 2025 World Tango de Pista Champions, will share the bill with Jonny Carvajal and Suyay Quiroga, the 2023 titleholders in the same category, and Brenno Marques and Fátima Caracoch, who won it in 2024. Simone Facchini and Gioia Abballe, the 2017 World Tango Escenario Vice-Champions, round out the championship pedigree on the card.
A Stage Built Around Legends and Rising Stars
Also performing are Javier Rodríguez and Fátima Vitale — Rodríguez is described by festival organizers as a true living legend of Tango Salón — alongside Martín Vicente and Ayelén Urrutia, internationally acclaimed artists from Santa Fe, Argentina. Ricardo Astrada and Constanza Vieyto, the 2022 World Tango Escenario Champions, complete the seven-couple roster, according to the same event page.
Backing the dancers will be singer Daniel Bouchet and the Sonder Tango Orchestra, identified by organizers as an Argentine tango orchestra based in Europe. The production is produced by Dennis Cante and Tanya Spektor, per the festival's own listing.
Part of a Larger Festival Weekend
GARUFA takes place during the Gavito Tango Festival, a four-day Argentine tango event at the Millennium Biltmore, according to the Santa Monica Daily Press. The paper reports the festival runs Oct. 1 through Oct. 4, drawing roughly 600 participants from the United States, Latin America, Europe, Asia and Australia for 34 workshops and 13 milongas, with dancing continuing until 5 a.m. on some nights.
Organizers Dennis Cante and Tanya Spektor told the Santa Monica Daily Press they want Argentine tango to be accessible across generations, nationalities and experience levels. Spektor said the pair wants to give back to the community because tango gave them a lot, per the same report. The festival's programming reportedly spans traditional tango, alternative tango and neo-tango, along with afternoon and outdoor dancing, live music, performances and vendors — including six specializing in tango shoes and clothing, according to the paper.
Passes, Pricing and a Showcase for U.S.-Based Couples
Beyond GARUFA's individually priced seats — reported by the Santa Monica Daily Press at $75 for bronze and $125 for gold — the broader festival reportedly offers a $295 Milonguero Pass focused on social dancing, plus a full-festival Prime Pass and day-pass options. The festival also includes an invitation-only community showcase for professional U.S.-based couples, the paper reports.
Cante told the Santa Monica Daily Press that artistic accomplishment is only one consideration when selecting performing artists, and that the culture of tango includes how people dress, according to the same report.
Registration Details and Festival Policies
Separately, the festival's own FAQ page lays out logistics for the broader event. All 2026 seminars will run first-come, first-served with a maximum capacity of 90 participants and no RSVP required, according to gavitotangofestival.com. Organizers say they are also planning support for solo dancers, including volunteers, rotating dance-assist volunteers and paid dance hosts to help guarantee partnering.
The festival's cancellation policy allows ticket holders who cancel on or before July 31, 2026, to qualify for either a full refund minus a $25 processing fee or a case-by-case rollover request, per the FAQ page. Festival passes can also be transferred to another person at no extra charge, though name changes are due by Sept. 25, 2026.
