The TECO Line Streetcar will host Streetcar Live this Friday in Ybor City, featuring J.IN.X and Frxxmxn. Now in its eighth year, the concert series runs monthly from September through May.
The official schedule lists the band for the 6 p.m. departure from Centennial Park Station #1. Creative Loafing Tampa Bay reports that admission is free and the pair will perform a two-hour hip-hop set.
Where the Streetcar Runs and Who's Behind It
Creative Loafing reports that the concert boards at Centennial Park, at 1800 E. 8th Ave., and that the streetcar travels between the park and Fort Brooke Garage, across from Hattrick's on Franklin Street. The outlet says riders may board and leave during the evening. The streetcar site says Gasparilla Music Festival powers the series; Creative Loafing reports that the Gasparilla Music Foundation programs it.
The Streetcar Beyond Concert Nights
The TECO Line Streetcar also serves riders outside special events. HART’s FY2025 report lists average daily ridership of 2,892 Monday through Thursday, 4,191 on Friday, 7,253 on Saturday and 4,218 on Sunday. Ybor City’s history also predates the concert series: the National Park Service notes that Ybor City became part of Tampa in 1887.
Streetcar Service and History
For regular transit, the TECO Line Streetcar's official site lists Friday service from 7 a.m. to 2 a.m. and says all rides are fare free. That is separate from the concert's no-cover admission.
The present streetcar line opened in stages: the City of Tampa says its first 2.4-mile segment entered service in 2002, followed by a 0.3-mile extension in December 2010.
The streetcar site describes Streetcar Live as taking place on the fourth Friday of each month from September through May, and Creative Loafing reports the same schedule for the current season. That differs from the outlet's description in a 2023 feature on Applebutter Express, which said concerts took place on the last Friday of each month.
A Monthly Series Through May
The official listing describes Jay Marley's Oct. 23 appearance as a DJ set spanning funk, disco, reggae and hip-hop.
After the May dates, Streetcar Live takes a summer break, Creative Loafing reports.
