A sprawling methamphetamine trafficking operation in Fresno County came crashing down Thursday morning, when a multi-agency raid led to 15 arrests and the seizure of more than 2,500 pounds of methamphetamine, over 500 gallons of liquid meth, 21 firearms and more than $20,000 in cash. California Attorney General Rob Bonta announced the results of the early-morning operation, which targeted a suspected drug trafficking organization running a methamphetamine conversion lab across multiple locations in the county.
Early Morning Raid Targets Conversion Lab Network
The California Department of Justice and the FBI executed the raid on Thursday in an operation involving conversion laboratories in Bakersfield and Visalia, according to KMPH. Investigators said the liquid methamphetamine alone, more than 500 gallons of it, could have been processed into more than 2,000 additional pounds of finished crystal methamphetamine had it not been intercepted. That potential yield would have roughly doubled the amount of finished product already recovered at the scene.
The KMPH account reports 12 arrests in an operation involving conversion laboratories in Bakersfield and Visalia. The bust involved 15 arrests and the recovery of more than 2,500 pounds of meth and 21 guns.
Years-Long Investigation Involved Eight Agencies
The operation followed years of work by the Department of Justice's High Impact Investigation Team, the KMPH report notes, and drew on cooperation from the Central Valley California High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas program, the FBI, the Kings County Sheriff's Office, the Fresno County Sheriff's Office, Homeland Security Investigations, the DEA, California Cannabis Control and the Madera County Sheriff. The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of California will prosecute the case going forward.
Bonta said law enforcement cooperation across all levels of government can protect families and communities from dangerous illegal drugs, and added that the California Department of Justice will continue pursuing public safety in communities and courtrooms. The Fresno case echoes an oag.ca.gov announcement crediting the same over-2,500-pound total and the nine-plus-three conspirator breakdown to Bonta's office, per an Attorney General's Office statement.
Another Large-Scale Meth Seizure in California
The Fresno bust occurred alongside a large-scale meth seizure in Calaveras County. A coordinated operation in Calaveras County in February resulted in the seizure of roughly 2,700 pounds of methamphetamine, including about 1,500 pounds of finished product and roughly 1,270 pounds of partially processed meth pending lab confirmation, according to ABC10. More than 100 officers served high-risk search warrants at residential properties in Valley Springs, Turlock and Modesto during that operation, which resulted in eight people taken into federal and state custody and 12 firearms recovered. ABC10 reports that investigation remains active, with additional arrests, charges or asset forfeitures possible.
Fentanyl and other synthetic drugs, including methamphetamine, remain the primary drivers of fatal drug overdose deaths nationwide, according to the DEA's 2025 National Drug Threat Assessment. Against that backdrop, the scale of the Fresno seizure, and the sheer volume of liquid meth that never made it to the street as finished product, underscores why investigators have poured years into dismantling conversion labs feeding the Central Valley's drug supply.
