Fresno officers forced their way into a burning home early Wednesday after the homeowner did not answer the door, then got him and one dog out safely. Firefighters later rescued a second dog, according to the Fresno Police Department.
The response began at about 3:30 a.m. after a reporting party noticed a garage fire and tried to alert the homeowner. The person also reported hearing a dog inside, police said. By the time officers arrived to assist firefighters, the blaze had spread toward the front door and into the home. Fire crews brought it under control after finding the second dog inside.
Fresno fires involving animal rescues
On Sept. 10, 2026, firefighters rescued a dog from an attic fire in southwest Fresno, near Hughes Avenue and Dan Ronquillo Drive, YourCentralValley (KSEE/KGPE) reported. In a separate fire on July 31, 2025, firefighters rescued three dogs, a chameleon and a turtle after a family was displaced, GV Wire reported.
These are individual incidents, not evidence of a rise in fires or pet rescues. Animal evacuation can be part of a home emergency plan: Ready.gov recommends planning how pets will be evacuated and preparing emergency supplies for them.
Police reported that the homeowner and both dogs got out safely. The available account does not identify the homeowner, say whether anyone needed medical treatment, explain what started the garage fire or detail the damage to the home.
