A 17-year-old boy died after being shot multiple times outside an apartment complex near Ninth Street and Bulldog Lane, close to Fresno State's Valley Children's Stadium. Officers responded to a shooting report around 10:30 p.m. last Saturday and found the teen suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to Community Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased.
Doorbell camera footage from the complex captured a group of three to four masked suspects moving door to door in the moments before the shooting, according to KMJNOW. One suspect was overheard saying, “It's not this one,” just before multiple gunshots rang out a few doors down. Eyewitnesses and neighbors reported seeing the masked group flee on foot immediately after the gunfire, and officers along with EMS personnel provided life-saving measures on scene before the teen was transported for treatment.
Fresno police have not publicly addressed whether the teenager was specifically targeted. Available accounts describe suspects approaching multiple doors before the shooting.
Football Crowds Nearby, But No Link to the Game
The shooting happened close to Valley Children's Stadium during a Fresno State season opener, though police confirmed the violence had no connection to the game, per the same account from KMJNOW. The apartment complex sits directly adjacent to campus athletic facilities along Bulldog Lane, meaning the two events occurred near each other even though they were unrelated.

Fresno's latest complete annual data show declines in both homicides and shooting incidents compared with 2020. According to the Fresno Police Department's 2025 End of Year Review, the city recorded 22 homicides in 2025, down from 74 in 2020. The review also lists 162 shooting incidents in 2025, compared with 732 in 2020. The Fresno State Annual Security and Fire Safety Report says the university's police department has primary jurisdiction on university-owned and operated property and shares concurrent jurisdiction on adjacent public streets and surrounding communities.
Complex residents have also reported heightened safety concerns in recent months, and KMJNOW reports surveillance cameras and other security measures.

Detectives identified the victim as a 17-year-old male juvenile from Fresno. Homicide Detective J. Baroni and Detective N. Crime Trends After a Historic Low
This killing lands amid a complicated year for violent crime data in Fresno. The city recorded 22 homicides in 2025, its lowest murder rate in over 50 years and a 70% decline from the 74 homicides logged in 2020, according to GV Wire. GV Wire also published a separate report by July.

The Bulldog Lane shooting also follows other recent gun violence involving teenagers in the area around Fresno State.
