A garage packed with golf carts and service vehicles caught fire at Paramount Country Club in New City, sending crews scrambling early in the day before the flames were brought under control. The extent of the damage remained unclear in the immediate aftermath.
According to Daily Voice, the fire broke out around 4:25 a.m. on Friday, September 18, per New City Fire Engine Co. No. 1. A separate account from Monsey Scoop, published on September 8, reported that the New City Fire Department responded to the country club at approximately 11:30 a.m. that day for a reported golf cart fire. The two outlets' timelines for when the blaze actually started do not match, and it is not clear from either report how the discrepancy arose.
Firefighters Moved Fast Once On Scene
A fire official arrived within minutes of the initial call and reported smoke showing from the garage, the outlet's report states. More firefighters arrived soon afterward and quickly knocked down the blaze, according to the fire department. Crews ultimately remained at the scene for around two hours before clearing out.
The garage that caught fire held multiple golf carts along with service vehicles. Both the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage were not immediately available, leaving key questions about what sparked it and how badly the garage and its contents were affected still unanswered.
Similar Fires Have Hit Golf Clubs Elsewhere
Garage and clubhouse fires are not unheard of at golf courses. In November 2021, a fire at Minnewasta Golf and Country Club in Morden, Manitoba, completely destroyed the clubhouse and, according to CBC News, also slightly damaged the course's pro shop and a nearby garage housing golf carts. About 40 firefighters from Morden and neighboring Winkler were needed to bring that fire under control.
A separate incident at Presque Isle Country Club saw a storage garage fire badly damage golf carts, equipment and two cars, though no one was injured, as reported by the Bangor Daily News. That garage had housed 28 golf carts, a Kubota tractor and a boat, all of which were deemed destroyed. Thirteen of those carts belonged to the club itself, with the rest owned by members.
Back in New City, no comparable damage assessment has been released for Paramount Country Club. The cause of the fire was not immediately available in the aftermath, and the full scope of what was lost inside the garage remains unknown for now.
